Welcome to Reception!
Your teachers are Mrs Sarah Pugh (Monday, Tuesday) and Mrs Emma Taylor (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) supported by Mrs Paola Miron. If we can help answer any other questions you may have, please do not hesitate to speak to us.
Coming to school and settling in.
All our children have settled well and are enjoying exploring and learning inside and outside. If your children do anything at home that they would like to share with us – please encourage them to bring it in and share it with us!
These are available for you to take home and tell us about anything your child has done at home. This information helps us fill in their learning journals.
Children are given stickers for following our High Five rules and when they collect 10, they receive a reward.
All children are offered a piece of fruit and a drink in the morning. There is water available to drink all day. You do not have to send any other snacks in with your child. Milk is available free to all children under 5.
A list of our uniform is on the parents’ notice boards. Children should not wear trainers. Please ensure all uniform is named, including shoes!
Your child will bring home their phonics folder on Fridays and their handwriting folder on Mondays. Please help your child to practice at home. In addition there will be a home learning project each term for your child to complete with support.
Stay and Learn sessions
You are invited to stay with your child for the first hour of school and play together. These sessions happen once a term.
We would really like as many parents/grandparents/carers as possible to volunteer to cook, read and generally help out around the classroom. Please see your child’s teacher if you would like to do this.
Copies of the class timetable can be found on the parents’ notice boards. If you have any questions about our curriculum, please do not hesitate to ask.
Please make sure your child changes their book at least once a week. Books can be brought to school on any day. There is space in the reading record for you to comment on your reading time with your child, and these records will be checked every time they are returned, so you can leave messages for us in them.
Show and tell
This will be on Fridays to encourage speaking and listening skills. Toys will be kept in a box in a safe place during the day.
Your children spend a lot of time outdoors and we would recommend all children have their own named pair of wellington boots and a named waterproof coat. If your child has a pair of waterproof trousers these would also be useful.
As you know all our children are entitled to a free school meal at lunchtime. This is a system you need to opt out of if you do not wish your child to have a school meal.
Please make sure your child brings their book bag to school every day with their reading diary and school reading book.
Please leave reading books you would like changed in the appropriate box outside the classroom in the mornings.
